OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD – PLANT PARTNERS

Speaking of plant combinations ……I guess we weren’t, but it’s as swell a means as any of broaching the subject.

Like any gardener, we’re forever looking for plants that talk to each other, so to speak. Compatible floral or foliar color? Bloom times in synch? Forms that complement each other? All are aspects to consider when searching out plant pairings.

We recently planted a ‘Sun King’ Aralia alongside a trio of ‘All Gold’ hakonechloa and if we weren’t so humble, we would’ve patted ourselves on the back for devising such an attractive combo.

Our designs aren’t always blue ribbon affairs, but when combinations click, there’s cause for jubilation.

I’m not sure we were thinking of pleasing plant combinations when here at the nursery we lined out Calamintha nepeta with several selections of allium. While not in a proper garden setting, the combination nevertheless brings smiles, and a generous following of pollinators. A winning vignette in all regards.

Come see for yourself.
